About Tejano Music

Tejano music (or tex-mex / texan-mexican music) refers to many different forms of folk and popular music that originated in the late 19th century in central and southern texas amongst its mexican-american populations. Tejano would go on to reach a much wider audience come the late 20th century. Stylistically, it commonly features the accordion and combines the polka with various types of traditional mexican music. More contemporary forms feature electronic instrumentation and elements of rock music.
